Here I was, surrounded by three 50-something year-olds and there wasn’t a mature moment in sight….
I don’t know what I expected when I went on the road with three of my photography students, but it sure wasn’t the hilarity that ensued. I ought to have known that with Cheryl around, there’d be lots of laughter! From yelling at the GPS and giving it a special nickname, to wearing fake mustaches in the book store… the sillyness never stopped.
It was a fantastic three days with three wonderful people. Highlights: 1) Not having anyone tell us to hurry up while we were taking photos. 2) Stopping anywhere we wanted, anytime we wanted a photo opp. 3) Learning thing about each other you can only learn when 4 women are sharing a hotel room with 2 beds and 1 bathroom. 4) Celebratory ice cream after the peacock photos! 5) Wanda. 6) Roasted walnuts from the farmers’ market. 7) Playing giggling baby sounds on the iphone to lure cougars from their dens. 8) Maria’s mustache matching her hair. 9) Having a handsome cop buy me dinner (thanks Matthew!)
Best of all was the inspiration that comes from spending time with other photographers. It was fun to see the world through their eyes! I can get stuck in my own little box for how to compose and expose an image, but seeing how three people captured the same subject in different ways opened up my eyes to try new things!
Thought for the day
Never get complacent in your artistic expression. Always explore, be willing to try new things, challenge yourself and see the world through others’ eyes. Afterall, many eyes make great photographs!
