February 6th was one of my favourite days in Scotland. I'd discovered Buchanan Castle online long before I made the trip overseas but I was nearing the end of my six-month stay before we finally took a little road trip to find it. Buried in the middle of a small wood, there she stood, looming overhead, her walls a melody of man's dreams and nature's forces. I've hardly ever seen anything so beautiful!
With tall towers to wind our way up, windows and doorways whose curtains were made of vines, staircases, ornate fireplaces and room after room to explore, it was literally a piece of heaven on earth! We hardly knew where to look or what to photograph first. The images included in this post are a mix of both mine and my friend's (it was a fantastic bonus to have an unsuspecting second shooter!)
Over the years, as Buchanan Castle has lay abandoned, nature has begun reclaiming what was once its own. Dare I say, it's likely more beautiful now, in ivy-covered ruins, than the original grand structure ever could have been (at least to this Canadian romantic!)
Here is a little aerial view of the castle I found online (it's not my photo.)
Just look at this PLACE!!!!
I KNOW, RIGHT!?!?!?!!
