If we’re going to talk about today, it would be impossible not to mention the weather! What a crazy day it was. We started the day getting drenched while we did our morning run. Before long the sun was beating down and it looked like a promising day. Then there was an afternoon thunder, lightning and hail storm. More sunshine. More rain. Some sunshine for a while, which called for a baseball game with uncle Matthew that soon got rained out. Then it was time to leave the house for an outdoor group photo for a book project - the weather looked reasonable. Oh, nevermind - an evening thunder and lightning storm. It was one of those days where you could honestly say ‘If you don’t like the weather wait five minutes.’
During the hailstorm I looked forlornly out the window at my little garden of baby plants. I put my hands to my face and said “What do we do?!?” My friend Angela said simply, “pray.”
That’s the truth. That’s the only answer I really needed. Because as soon as the prayer left my lips, my son suggested we cover them with umbrellas. The three of us ran outside with our arms full and covered the babies the best we could. We were standing there dripping wet, but the garden looked pretty cute covered with 15 umbrellas of different shapes and colours. And when the next downpour hit, they were safe.
I lost count of how many times we got soaked through today. It was a weather roller-coaster.
Thought for the Day
Life is like that sometimes. The ups and downs can seem to come out of no where, sending us soaring on the wind and then crashing down again. Knowing that I often can’t control the circumstances is a good reminder to have faith in the One who can. When things get crazy and the storms of life rain down around me and I don’t know what to do, there is only one answer I need: pray.
