So, there we were, sitting on the fountain steps in Piazza Santa Maria, enjoying some gelati, minding our own business… when suddenly in walked a bunch of musicians. They set up right in front of us, already cracking jokes saying “Thanks for showing up early folks - you get the best seats that way.” Oh course, none of us had any idea they were coming, but front row seats were indeed what we had, whether we wanted them or not.
Much to our delight, Vermont Joy Parade was absolutely charming, entertaining and bursting at the seams with talent. Back at the flat, I googled them. This is no ramshackle street band - this seven piece band is a seasoned group who have had several notable performances. “Since 2008, they‘ve conducted six critically acclaimed national American tours … and two buzz worthy tours of Central Europe with a documentary film maker.” - quoting from their website.
It’s no wonder. Their antics had us in hysterics and their music had us tapping our toes and cheering. They had no problem reminding us to pitch some money into their case saying, “Don’t forget to get out your wallet, take out one euro, and put the wallet … into our case. Thank you!”
We loved every moment of the impromptu concert at Piazza Santa Maria - a more perfect moment there has not yet been on this trip. Thank you Vermont Joy Parade! You did indeed bring much joy to our day! Check them out: http://vermontjoyparade.com/
