Today is Mother’s Day. A day all about family. A day about the little moments that are truly the big moments when it comes down to it.
Moms are the heartbeat of the family. They are the ones who comfort in times of sadness, kiss it better when there are owies, and praise even at the smallest of successes.
I celebrated Mother’s Day by teaching a workshop to my photography students about capturing life’s moments.
We had two beautiful families to photograph in a completely candid style - meaning there was no instruction given. We literally just followed them around and captured authentic photographs as they happened.
It was invigoration and fulfilling. There is nothing that gets me as excited or emotional as capturing true memories for people. The rest of the world disappears and all I see are these beautiful faces in front of my lens.
Thought for the Day
As mothers we are incredibly blessed to get to experience all of the little moments in our children’s lives. While others may be there for birthdays, Christmas and school concerts, we get to be there for bedtime prayers, we get to see the light in their eyes when they learn to tie their shoes, we get to hold them tight when they have bad dreams. Those moments are gifts given to mothers to cherish, hold close and remember when there are no longer little ones at home. Let every second bring you joy and hang on as tight as you can, because these years are over far too soon.
