For our macro challenge today, we could choose any subject we wanted! The catch: we had to photograph it with four different backdrops:
Len and I had a handfasting ceremony to join us together in marriage. As we said our vows, a cord was draped across our hands for each vow we made. Then, my Uncle Albert, tied them all in a knot to signify our bonds being secure. I still have the knot that his hands tied for us. It is one of my most treasured possessions. Not only because it symbolizes the forever love my husband and I have for one another, but because of the man who tied that knot and joined us back together.
Today marks the one year anniversary since my Uncle went to be with Jesus. Today my heart misses him extra-much. Today's photo project is for him. Though he impacted my life in many ways, the most important was in reuniting my husband and I. These chords are the ones he tied around our hands when we got remarried. This backdrop is the speech he wrote for us and the words he spoke to us at our wedding ceremony. He was honoured to officiate our very private wedding with only a few people present, but really, the honour is all mine. To have been loved by this great man.
I spent time today looking back through photos, reading old messages and remembering my uncle. I have had leaky eyes all day, and of course, the thought crossed my mind that I wish he was not gone.
In true Uncle Albert style, he corrected me in a quick, loving, but truthful way.
While I was photographing the speech he wrote for my wedding, I was using a small depth of field to try and bring the word "honour" into focus. As I narrowed in, everything else blurred out except for 5 words that were a combination of two lines in the speech. Instead of what it originally said: "I consider it an honour to be present here today..." it now read:
"HONOUR TO BE WITH GOD"
I hear ya, Bert! Loud and clear. 'Nuff said.
Needless to say, that backdrop qualified as my "something unexpected."
Below is my something colourful. The wedding gown from my reception.
Here is something textured (the wedding gown from my ceremony) and in the black and white, a photo of Len and I from our wedding day.
Uncle Albert's speech was titled: A Chord of Three Strands
"A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12
And when those chords are tied by hands that are empowered by the unconditional love of Jesus, the staying power is literally unstoppable!
