There is nothing more fulfilling for me as a photographer than to have an entire evening with a family in one of their favourite places, capturing the beauty of life's ordinary moments.
Things were stacked against us that night. First off, the forest fires nearby caused such thick smoke that the incredible view we came for was nothing but a faint outline on the horizon. Enthusiastically, we forged ahead, determined to make the best of it. About ten minutes in, we heard thunder. This was highly unexpected because we've had very little precipitation all summer, and the smoke was so thick, we couldn't see the storm clouds moving in. Sure enough, drops began to fall within minutes. It was with a prayer of thankfulness that we noted how badly the rain was needed! And on we went for the next couple hours, letting the rain wash away our worries, in open fields surrounded by cows, beneath the canopy of birch forests, along quiet country roads and through rustic wooden gates. We breathed in the scent of the rain, the crispness of the air, and the vibrant hues of autumn beginning to emerge. It was truly beautiful. I am thrilled to share this collection with you. And thank you to this wonderful family for trusting us to capture the authenticity of the moment.
