Today’s post is for a friend. Man, life can throw you a curve ball sometimes. Just when you think it’s smooth sailing WHAM.
And you’re flat on your back, staring at the sky wondering how this happened. It all goes in fast forward from there. Feeling numb. In shock. Doing this. Doing that. Trying to stay preoccupied. Needing someone to tell but not wanting to acknowledge it. Saying it out loud makes it real and weird and…
Did that really just happen?
Everyone will tell you, one day at a time, but heaven only knows a day might as well be an eternity sometimes. There are times that an entire day is far too much to strive for.
It might be all you can do to get through one minute.
And you might look back at the end of 1440 minutes and realize that somehow, some way you got through an entire day and you’re still breathing, still standing, still smiling for everyone around you.
What’s amazing about resilience, is that one day you realize you’re not counting the minutes anymore. Things get better somewhere during those days that seemed to last forever and nights of dreamless sleep. The path becomes straighter again. The sky becomes brighter. The minutes blend into hope-filled hours and days float by with sunshine and ice cream cones and warm winds of change. Without warning, you are caught up in a wave of happiness:
for moments, and then hours, and then days.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Whatever trials come your way, never lose sight of the hope that lies beyond.
Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.”
