After a week prepping for the retreat and then 5 days of being crazy busy running the retreat, I felt a bit like I’d been hit by a truck. Getting up at 5:30am and going to bed sometime after midnight for 6 nights didn’t help. So, while there was a very long to-do list awaiting me, I spent most of the day after sleeping, reading, snuggling the kids and loading my photos from the trip. At the end of the day I was surprised and proud of myself for listening to my body and actually taking it easy.
There’s always a zillion things to do, but not always days to do nothing. In taking time to rejuvenate my body and catch up on sleep and rest, I felt ready to tackle life again. In the past I would have felt guilty for “wasting a day” but I’m learning that refueling, refilling, relaxing is actually accomplishing something far more important than cleaning my house would have been. It’s giving me the energy I need to jump back in with both feet instead of with a half-mangled body running on empty. So… in that case, I did check something off my to-do list today: the most important item on it!
