Our second afternoon in Scotland found us on a little road trip to some areas within reach of Aberdeen. Our hosts were determined to bring us to as many places as possible before the afternoon was out, so they gave us quick stops at Loch of Skene, Castle Fraser, Monymusk and the Bridge of Feugh.
The absolute highlight of the day, and perhaps of the enter trip, was when Sherrylynn and I took a little detour off the path and roamed through the open forest at Lock Skene. We spotted a small ruins through the trees and went to investigate. I was trailing behind taking photos from a distance when Sherrylynn said, "You're not going to believe this. Come look inside."
To our amazement, there were multiple trees growing up through the building and out of the open ceiling. The forest and the ruins were becoming one, a breathtaking tribute to the resilience of nature.
I could have sat in that place and dreamed many dreams. There were lullabies on the wind and whispers floating through the open windows. It was magical.
A few shots from our other quick stops:
We ended up back in Aberdeen at the beach just as the sun started sinking lower in the sky. The wind was icy cold so I took a few quick shots and then waited in the van while the die-hards explored the sand and sea.
Don't forget to participate in my Scot-Free contest and let me know which image is your favourite from this set. Mention the title of the photo in a comment below before midnight tonight, and someone will win an 8x12 print of their fav!
